How long can I take a labret out before the hole closes?

I have to get my wisdom teeth out. I'll have to take the labret out because:

1: It could get in the way

2: I'll probably swell up quite a bit.

So how long can I take a labret out (that I will have had for just under a year) before the hole closes?

  1. Everyone's body is different. It could be a few hours, a few minutes or even a few days (but that's unlikely). Since you won't be able to wear a retainer for the procedure, you will have to take the chance. I would try to put it back in right away (perhaps buy a longer post just in case of swelling) and if you can't a piercer may be able to get it back in with an insertion taper.

    Good Luck!
