Question:

How long can I wear contacts each day?

I usually wear my contacts through school and sometimes into the evening, which is about 11-13 hours. Is this a reasonable amount of time to keep them in?

Second question: I have a friend who wears them the full day (16+ hours.) What can happen by overwearing them like that?

  1. i wear mine all day too , but once in a while i will put eye tear drops to keep it moist in case you are out in the wind . at night i take them out and put them in contact cleanser until the next day . but mine are not prescribed, they are the throw away kind. i still keep mine as long as they are kept clean at all times when not using them .

  2. It's ok to wear them that long but just use rewetting drops for contacts a couple times a day. It keeps them moist and clean. I like the Clearz or Clerz (can't remember the spelling) plus by Alcon. If you get out of school/work and are just going to stay at home you should wear your glasses to let the eyes breathe and relax. Contacts kind of suffocate the eye.

  3. U can wear those normal lenses for about recommended hours of about 8 to 10hrs afterwhich ur eye will feel dry. But with those improved silicone lenses, the user can use it for more than 16hrs per day to the extend of 24hrs. Ur friends might be using that type of lenses. Else the eye will be dry and red at the end of the day as the oxygen flow to the eyes are greatly reduced.

  4. I wear mine all day too. I don't think there is a problem with overwearing them. In fact, some people even sleep with them in. I would not recommend doing that, but its ok to do.

  5. If you overwear them they can get stuck to your eyeball. It happened to a friend of mine. My eye doctor told me that I should wear my contacts for 7 hours then take them out to clense them.

  6. It really depends on the type of contact.  Ask your eye doctor about your specific kind.  Also...If you are to get your contacts stuck in your eye you should pour contact solution continuously into your eye until it is loose enough to pull out.  Hope this helps! :)
