My boyfriend is Canadian, I am an American. We are researching how best to join our lives. I have begun to lookinto Dual Citizenship (Grandparents never naturalized), but want to exhaust all possibilities.

  1. you will not get any universal healthcare if you do not live in Canada.

pensions can only be calculated from when you worked in Canada and paid into CPP. If you dont pay into CPP then when you do retire, you will only get what little you have paid in.

  2. In Ontario I think it is 180 days for OHIP, I don't know about retirement

  3. This is a question for your consulate

  4. The health benefits are good only in Canada.  As far as retirement benefits, you can have your CPP payments sent to you whereever you are in the world.  Old Age is only good if you live in Canada.
