It's a beardie I'm getting from a friend, it's been without UVB light for a couple of days, I'm guessing three or four, I was wondering how this would affect her.

  1. It's not UV... It's what part of the spectrum.  UVA is visile light to the human eye.  It needs UVB for life/calcium absorption, etc., and that can't be seen by the human eye.

In the wild, these animals bask for up to 12 hr. a day, daily.

Sun is vital... the UVB is.  What exactly are you asking?  Can it live 1-2 days without sun?

Yes, beyond that is pushing health issues for the animal.

Are you current on UVB sources, and MBD?

If you plan on longer than that, then note these sites:

If you don’t already know of a qualified exotics/reptile vet in your area, google: “Herpetological Society” -or-

http://www.herpvetconnection.com/  for the one closest to you.

Is this research before you get the animal, or just curiousity?

An informed owner is a happy one with a content and healthy animal.

Since I'm not sure of your agenda, I'll paste some links below, but note my disclaimer.

Good luck, and I hope this has been helpful.

  2. well they NEED one so your best bet is to get one  its not good  for a pet not to have something it NEEDS!!!!

  3. well bearded dragons need a UVB bulb everyday but in reality the sun doesnt shine everyday so it can go maybe 1 or 2 days without it but its better that you not let it go longer than that

  4. Just get the UV light.

  5. i have one. i never leave it for more than a day. I'm not sure though.

  6. We don't use uv lights we use indorr reflector lights 75 to 100 watt there cheaper and better then we uses repti cal with vit d3 in all there food and they do great

  7. I don't know how long your planning on doing without one.  Just get one as soon as possible!  They could develop Metabolic Bone Disease in weeks.

Oh, a couple days.  A couple days without UVB isn't serious.  Don't worry.  Still, get one as soon as you can.

  8. Which UV light? UVB or UVA?

They need both and shouldn't be left without them for more than eight hours. UVB takes the calcium out that can harm them, UVA replenishes what they've lost in that day.
