Read somewhere about some seabird that flies nonstop for about 5 years without landing -- it sleeps and eats on the wing -- and then finally lands for mating and breeding but doesn't do that until around age 5. Can't remember the kind of bird or where I read this, and I can't find the info elsewhere. Also how does it eat without landing on the water -- grabs fish while flying low over the water?

  1. Here is the longest flight of a bird ever recorded (see below). There is no bird on the planet that can fly for 5 years straight without landing.  You must be thinking of albatross which may not return to land for many years...they live out at sea, but they still land in the ocean, to feed and sleep.

  3. The Eagle, it can fly up to a height of 6000 ft. can fly for more then 3 hours, the best part is it can sight the prey from that height and can hit the ground with in next 60 seconds, a fully grown bird can be of 4 - 5 kg and wing spread of 5 ft.

  4. its the albatross, it can fly continuously without touching the water for nearly two years.

A well fed one survives the cold and can stay up there 4 nearly 3 years.
