How long can a cat be in heat?

I've had my cat since she was 5 weeks old. Now she is like 6 months old. I read somewhere that a female cat can be in heat as young as 4 months. She is in heat though I can see the signs. It's a 24 hour job keeping the other male cats away from her!

So how long can a female cat be in heat?

P.S I am taking her to the vet today.

Every time is a little different.  Usually about 2-3 weeks.  Get her fixed and everyone will be happier!

This time of year they can cycle in and out of heat almost continuously, so it may seem that she is constantly in heat.  Get her spayed even if she *is* in heat though - it's not dangerous for her, and will get the whole ordeal over with!

Female cats can go into heat and get pregnant as early as 4 months of age. They are usually in heat for 7 to 10 days at a time, and will go in and out of heat every week or two until they are mated or spayed.

It is best to spay and neuter all cats before they reach sexual maturity (as early as 3 months to before 6 months) to avoid pregnancy, deadly pyometra, spraying and other behavioral issues, discomfort to the cat and the annoying behaviors that unfixed cats display.

dont let her out hunny, and get her spayed as soon as possible :) there are too many unwanted animals in the world as it is.

our kitten goes into heat..and stays in heat for a week or so, and the meow drives us crazy lol..I will be happy when shes neutered :P
