  1. Employment laws vary from state to state.  You need to contact your state unemployment office, or look online to read your state's laws.   You might also search "labor law" or "employment law" and your city to see if you can get a consultation with an attorney in that field.

    If the employer is suspending for a really long time, it looks like they're trying to get you to quit rather than to fire you which would allow you to collect unemployment.
