  1. It is usually 1 hour for each month of age, plus one hour, so a two-month-old puppy can only be left alone/hold its potty for 3 hours at the most.  Depending on the age of the puppy, you might consider a dog walker, pet sitter, family help, church freind, coming home during lunch to let the puppy out.

  2. If you are looking for a simple answer - it depends on your schedule.  Dogs have to adjust to your schedule, dont worry about the dog, he or she will be fine.  If the dog is very young (7-16 weeks) you may come home to an accident.  If that is the case, try controlling the water a bit more and not allowing the dog to take a big drink before entering his kennel.

Be fair to your dog, if he is in the kennel while you are at work for the whole day, just make sure he gets the exercise that he needs.

Sometimes it is more emotionally challenging for us then for the dog, he will be fine!

  3. About an hour or two.

If you will be gone longer, then you'll need to have someone come in to exercise him and let him out to go potty.

BY the time he's a year old, 4-5 hours a day would be fine.

  4. If you are going to be gone for about 6-8 hours, just make sure he- she does their business before you put them in the crate, and when you get home make sure you exercise the dog, they are very hyper active dogs and will take about 2-4 years to mature.

  5. I have a 13 week old lab and she is left alone from 8am to around 12pm, let out and played with for 30 minutes and put back until between 4-5pm.  For the remainder of the night, she is only alone in her crate for less than an hour if I have an errand to run.  I would reconsider leaving water in the crate as she should sleep and rest her bladder while you are away... but that's just my opinion.  My pup gets water whenever she's not in her crate and full access to the yard when needed.  Good luck :)  Don't worry if he cries, it'll slow and fade quickly.
