How long can a person have mrsa or staff infection before it turns into blisters or sores ?

my nephew has a lump on the back of his that he has had for a year or so he says he saw a Doctor when it just looked like a bump under the skin and the Doctor said i have no clue we went to the ocean recently and when we came home it was red and sore today he showed it to me and puss was coming out well my question is what do u think this is and how long can u have staff infection and not know it?

GO to the dr now you dont want to mess with it at all. Make sure he doesnt touch anything around the house and at the dr office or hospital. Keep His mouth covered.
