How long can a raw egg last outside the shell?

i went shopping today and bought a carton of eggs. they were sitting on the counter and my 2 year old son climbed up and knocked the carton on the floor. almost all the eggs were cracked. is it ok to put the eggs back in the fridge and just use them later? they ar perfectly good, the shells are just cracked.

  3. No, use them now or throw them out. If there are cracks in the shell then all the bacteria on the outside of the shell can contaminate the inside. Leaving them like that will only give that bacteria time to multiply to dangerous levels.

    Consider cooking a pound cake or two, they use a lot of eggs. Or a Quiche. Or ask a question here about a recipe that uses a lot of eggs.
