How long can a standard police helicopter stay in the air?

to all those that replied intelligently,a big thank-you... reason 4 the ?,my neighbor thinks he can outrun a police helicopter on a enduro motorcycle,because of the gas limitations...personally i don't agree

  1. In the few times I worked as an observer, we rarely stayed in the air longer than 2-3 hours tops, land, fill tanks, empty bladders, and go again. I am a fixed wing pilot and have a little helicopter time but I'm not a helicopter expert but I believe as an example the Bell Jet Ranger has about 4 hours fuel when full although we didn't always fill the thing up.

  3. First of all, there is no such thing as a "standard police helicopter." Many departments use Bell Jet Rangers, but others use a multitude of others, and there are different models of most of these, just like cars.

    Aside from all of the above, a couple of hours is about all they stay up.

    Plenty of time to find you and have you pulled over. Plus, usually, there are more than one around.
