  1. There might be an investigation going on so I do not think there is any particular time frame.

  2. as long as the employer feels needed. But most of the time its 3 days to a week.

  3. Unless you work for the Government, or have a union contract that states otherwise,  a private employer can fire you at will.

They can fire you in Florida for any reason or no reason at all. They don't even have to tell you a reason.

Thus they can suspend you for any reason.

Now if you are in a protected class (that would be anyone OTHER than white male aged 18 to 40) then  the employer could be considered discriminatory..if similarly situated white males were treated differently.

Bottom line, best to get along at work...and forget about what you could do. You got lots of time (180 days) to file for discrimination..which I DO NOT recommend..

Don't call the labor board, etc. .

    Don't make trouble..

    Been there done that..and won...but

    I know more than most..

I have had tons of experience...

I taught Master level Human resources..

The Black Manager is a good book by Jacqueline and Floyd Dickens if you can get a hold of it. Mrs. Dickens was my professor..back in MBA school.

If I were you, I would try to resolve the situation amicably with your employer...

DESPITE what you MAY really feel.

You can always go elsewhere but it is easier and you are more marketable if you are currently employed.

Yes this is a wake-up call for you.

Life is not fair and fair was not written on your birth certificate (that is from Jacqueline Dickens)..

    Good luck.

    Meantime...

File for unemployment in the mean time (since you have an unpaid waiting week) , and tell unemployment you have no idea why laid off. Do not admit you did anything wrong.

Look for two jobs a week and document.

    See the job market...

Once you see that you may be glad you have or had a job and make the best of it.

We are going into a tough time for the job market...

    Hope it works out..

If you do get canned ....never bad mouth a former employer..think of a reason why you left..other than it not working out..

    More responsibility, more opportunity, etc.

If you get canned...ask for a neutral reference and negotiate for better benefits.

Try to negotiate for unemployment insurance.

Don't sign any document stating you did wrong.

Oh...if they bring you back..and tell you you got to improve..like uh probation...then they MAY just be going through the motions of PRETENDING...THEY GAVE YOU A DOCUMENTED CHANCE..AND IN THIRTY DAYS THEY WILL TALK TO YOU AGAIN OR FIRE YOU...But now they documented they tried.

    Begin job hunting.

    File for unemployment.

    Hope it works out.

I take it you were suspended without pay...that likely means they think they have a strong case.

Don't bad mouth them at work..Don't talk about the case.

    You need a job.

Maybe you will STILL have a job..

    Good luck girl friend..
