Question:

How long can frozen goods be safely stored in a cooler bag?

We're travelling to London to visit my husband's family and I want to take frozen containers of home made meals for my baby girl so that I don't have to do them whilst we're there. The journey takes 4 hours from where we live; will it be safe to store the frozen meals in a cool bag with frozen ice packs for this amount of time? Does anyone know how long before the food would start to defrost, assuming that the car is of a reasonable temperature and it isn't a hot day (God forbid we might ACTUALLY get hot weather in the UK!)? Thanks =0)

  1. Freeze bottles of water - remove about an inch of water before freezing - to keep things cool longer than ice chips.  You will probably be okay if you use an actual insulated cooler (I'm not sure what you mean by 'cool bag'.)

But here is an even better idea:

try to get a little piece of dry ice - you won't need much

I am in Korea and the people at the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream shops always put in a piece with the ice cream or specialty cakes.  Once I had a cake (in June - very hot) that had to travel for two hours.  It arrived fine and still completely frozen when packed in a stryofoam box with a piece of dry ice.
