How long can my fiance come over from the US to the UK for? as in just as a holiday?

I know for me to travel from the UK to the US I can stay over for a maximum of 3 months on a holiday visa. Is it the same the other way round? (btw I am a British citizen and he is an American citizen)

I am not sure we need a visa to travel to the UK.  If we do it would usually be issued as a 3 month visa and some places will extend it for 3 more months once you get there.
