I wanna be able to sprint for long amounts of time instead of just 200m then slowing down a lot. So whats the record or average or anything, and any ways on improving sprint duration would help =)

  1. the way to do it is use these sessions i did 200m at 35sec and could'nt keep it going any longer!!! now after doing this below i can keep that pace going for a whole mile:-

    Session 1:- 200m x 5 at 35sec full recovery between them

    Session 2:- 400m x 5 at 1min20sec full recovery

    Session 3:- 400m x 5 at 1min10sec full recovery

Session 4:- 600m x 4 at 1min50sec and 200 x 1 at 35 sec full recovery = try to leave 5-7 days between each session but no more than 9 days our you will lose the speed you have gained!!! after these sessions use ur common sense to slowly increase it up to a mile on a track without stopping it worked brilliantly for me and now im working on increaseing it to 5k!!!

    hope i was of help

  2. until they get tired

  3. There is really no set amount of time an athlete is at it's max speed. Sprinting happens in phases,Acceleration Phase out of the blocks for approx 20-30cm

Stride Phase- where you maintain the acceleration created

Then- Lift Phase where proper technique comes in

All of this happens because of muscule strength, muscle contractions, power, strength endurance and running technique, controlled by your brain and nervous system

The best you can due is train for speed endurance doing high number of set,low number of repetitions per set, with 80% intensity distances of 60M to 80M for 100M and 120M - 150M for 200M

    for example:

    3 x 6 x 120 (80%)

    3 x (80, 120, 160) (80%)

  4. It depends on your physical make up, cardio vascular system and general fitness.....it depends on your muscles how long you an run for...after a certain amount of exertion, it is natural for the muscles to stop working, which is why you slow down, otherwise you would be able to run at top speed forever....so its a trade off..you can run at fast speed for a short distance or at mid pace for a longer distance.

  5. When I was at school, my teacher always said, around about 6 seconds. I think longer but perhaps he was right. Despite being overweight....

  6. Even pro sprinters don't keep a full sprint the full 200 meters.  It is an actual build up to max speed.  That is why the start is so important to sprinters.  I guess It is like turning on the after burners towards the end and not too early.

  7. I heard that you can only maintain your top speed for about 3-5 seconds before you slow down, even if you can't tell. That was for the 100m dash.

  8. I'm a sprinter on my highschool track team and my coach constantly reminds us that its all about technique. I'm not sure if this helps any but say you're running the 100m, the first 3-5 strides should be the point at which you are acclerating to your top speed, from there with good technique and posture you should be able to run a full 100m, at your top speed without slowing down towards the end. :]
