  1. i think the law comes down pretty heavy on hackers especially if the thing that was hacked was of importance!

  2. Depends on what you mean by hacking.

Most hackers believe that hacking means learning how something works, without the assistance of the authorities.

They refer to unauthorized intrusions, stealing, destruction of data or materials, as cracking.

The authorities call it all hacking, and yes, you can go to jail, for many years!

Read what happened to Kevin Mitnick, who as far as I know, never damaged anything but the credibility of the security officers.

  3. Depends on the severity. It is a crime to hack into someones computer or knowingly spread viruses. I remember a case way back when a guy got 50 yrs. for spreading viruses.

  4. yes. it is now a federal offense. you are talking years. one guy just got like 25 yrs.

  5. I know some one that went 2 a email that wasn't theres and they got 6 months good time It was a federal crime just like me going in to your mail box at your house now if they hack a bank they will get a lot longer

  6. Penalties for hacking vary from state to state and from nation to nation.  The penalty for harmless hacking can range from 1 to 2 years in jail to several years for governmental hacking.  In some foreigh countries hacking can result in the death penalty.

The image of harmless computer nerds' having a little fun is a long way from the reality of what hacking is all about. True hacking costs someone time and money, moreover accessing personal information is the computer version of home invasion. The law courts have not yet caught onto the seriousness of this activity as evident by their token fines and jail sentences given out to computer nerds. The exception as always is accessing government information which nearly always results in a prison sentence as well as heavy fines.

  7. Oh yeah! Depends on what you hack though.

  8. If you hack a person into little pieces, then definately.
