How long can someone wear braces?

what is the longest amount of time someone can wear braces for ?

My sister had them 5 1/2 years only because she kept skipping appointments to have them tightened. She would go 3-4 months. She was originally only supposed to have them 3 years.

I had them for almost 8 years :/

Got them off 2 months ago :D

Well, someone could probably wear them the entirety of their life.  I had mine for 3 1/2 years...which seemed like a dang long time to me.

Theoretically - a life time. If they are not removed they could stay on for years. Would it be a good idea, probably not!
