We accidentally left a package of uncooked chicken out overnight and it has been sitting at room temperature for about 20-22 hours. Is it still good since it has been sealed tight in the package? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  1. The proffesionals say that anything that is perishable will go bad after 2 hours in room temperature.

    But that's not always correct.

I'd say about 12 hours. Bacteria multiplies very quickly... 20 hours is too much. Dump the chicken, if you don't want to risk getting sick.

Just becase it's in a sealed package doesn't mean it will perish any slower.

  2. yes but i would cook it tonight weve had one out for 20 hours before and were just fine

  3. Over 2 hours at room temperature and the meat should be thrown out.  A little quote from the restaurant business, "when in doubt, throw it out."

  4. you have 4 hours to cook it or refridge it.  After that it is considered unsafe to consume. Don't even cook it. Throw it away. That goes with almost all perishable items
