  1. II'm not sure. maybe 1 day

  2. You shouldn't let milk be at room temperature for more than 2 hours.  If you're planning to take a plane trip home you won't be able to bring more than 1L on the plane if it's for your baby (and even then they may choose to confiscate it.)  Notify the airline that you need it for your baby before you get there.  With new regulations it makes it really hard to travel with liquids.

  3. that depends on the temperature of the room, but about 24 hours is pushing it (the bacteria builds up in it as soon as it reaches above 33 degrees).  Use a little portable ice box to keep it as cool as you can. And make a habit of taste testing it before pouring it into the bottle.

  4. about 1-2 days

    3 Max

  5. We usually don't use it if it's more than a few hours.  It really depends on how fresh the milk is though.

There's no single point where milk turns bad, say 3 hours versus 5.  It just gradually gets worse.  But more than half a day is pushing it.  If you need to make it more than 24 hours, then take a small cooler (we use one of those small soft lunch pails) to keep it cold.

You may need to warm the milk if your child is finicky.  You can also buy warmers that either plug into a car charger, or you can buy wraps that heat up chemically with no electricity source.  They're about $15 at Babies R Us.  They're re-usable but you have to boil them between heatings to reset the chemicals.

  6. Generally speaking each hour your milk stays at room temp is one less day it is good for.  So if it expires in two days it will probably go bad in two hours.

I have been known to stick the milk back in the fridge after its been out overnight.  I figure if its bad I'll know.

I would suggest a cooler though.  Or you could get a bunch of the 250mL cartons and freeze them.

  7. whole milk should last 24hrs at normal room temp 16-17 deg

whole milk at warmer temp could only last up to 12

  8. How long would you leave a formula bottle outat room temperature?

I believe it is recommended that you dispose of the contents after 2 hours.

Here is the opening paragraph from The National Dairy Council website...

"Cow's milk is among the most perishable of all foods, due to its fluid form and excellent nutritive composition. As it comes from the cow, milk provides an ideal medium for bacterial growth. To protect milk's quality, this food is handled under rigid sanitary conditions, resulting in low bacterial count, good flavor and appearance, satisfactory keeping quality, high nutritive value, and freedom from disease-producing organisms and foreign constituents. Today, less than 1% of all disease outbreaks due to infected foods and contaminated water involve milk and fluid milk products. The responsibility for ensuring milk's quality is shared by public health officials, the dairy industry, and consumers."

  9. wouldnt trust more than 8 hours

  10. It's perishable...it should not be out for longer than 2 hours, 60-90 min. if it's really hot. Any longer and you run the risk of making your daughter sick.

  11. I read this on a website

"Over 2 hours at room temperature, milk should not be consumed."

I also work in a grocery store and we aren't allowed to leave milk out for more than 1 hour otherwise we have to get rid of it.
