How long can you afford to not work?

lets us say you either quit or jod fired or took some time off at your job, how long would you able to go without a job? what amount of mone y is good to have in this time to live? how important it is to work again? people between the ages of 20+

  1. Most financial advisers suggest you have 6 months to a year of back up money, that you never touch in case you do lose your job or can't work because of a medical issue.


  2. I read that it's good to have between 2 to 3 months worth of expenses saved up in case of this situation.  A person that has no savings would obviously be in a very bad situation.  Working is important for everyone that hasn't won the lottery or hold stock in mideastern oil.  I should know; I'm looking for a job and it sucks.  Hopefully Friday's the day!

  3. About two hours.  And I'm not even joking.

    They say that it's good to have at least two months salary in savings.  But with the price of everything these days, that's very, very hard to do.
