  1. It depends upon the kind of debt.  for real property, it is for as long as you have title to the property.  For income tax liens, there is no statute of limitations. Same thing for property taxes.  For personal debt, it varies with type of debt.


  2. Debt is yours until you pay it.    They can no longer sue you for more after 7 years.

    Note that even if the statute of limiations runs out it can stay on your credit reports longer and companies can still bug you to pay it, but they can't sue you for it (so if you flat refuse to pay it they can't make you).
