How long can you have your learner's permit if you are over 18?

My sister is 21 and doesn't have her liscence yet. She is going to get a learner's permit by just taking the written test. no class needed. but after that she will have to drive with a liscenced adult. so how long is she allowed to have her permit? i know that i am only allowed to have it til i'm 21 but she is already past that age.

How long can she drive with her learners permit before she is required to take the driving test?

(UK) On my provional licence (lerners permit) my valid date is 2008 and it expires around 2069 thas over 60 years, i dont know how long it is in the US.

i think permits expire in a year in most states-if you don't get your license by then, you have to re-apply for another permit.
