  1. Is the water really old? Good luck trying to find any "new" water, all the water on the planet is the same age. badaboom.

And if it doesn't have one of those little drain plug/cap thingy's a pitch fork works well.

    bada......

  2. Ah, a great question!

Depends on several factors.  What type of chlorine do you use.  Liquid chlorine is good but contributes to Total Dissolved Solids over time.  Calcium Hypo raises the calcium over time.  Tri-Clor raises the cyanuric acid over time.

So with standards that say drain out or dilution is recommended when your TDS reach 3,000, calcium 600-1000 and CYA 100ppm.  You pick your poison!

Electrical Submersible pump with discharge hose to street or elsewhere is the quickest.  Check your equipment yards for this stuff.

    You're welcome!!

  3. All large pools come with drains.  Some work better than others, some are electric pumps connected to sewer, and some flow by gravity across the lawn.

You can keep the water in a good pool almost indefinately, as long as you have good filters, chemical cleaners, and keep bacteria and insects out.

It's very expensive to keep a large pool clean, and also they require safety fences, so unattended, curious  children or animals do not fall in and drown.

Pool owners are liable for injuries in their pool.

  4. In theory, no matter how dirty the water gets you can clean it but you have to weigh the cost and work of cleaning it against the cost of a refill. Reasonably maintained pool water never needs to be replaced. If you do want to drain it you can use the hose method mentoned earlier or you can let you vacume head with hose attached rest on the bottom then slowly sink the rest of the hose until all the air is pushed out. Cover free end with your hand and place on the ground. Really same as the hose method but there will be much more volume of water.

  5. If you have  pool filter, and add chlorine you should never need to drain it.  You can empty your pool by siphoning water out.  To siphon the water out lay garden hose in pool and turn on water,  turn water off at the faucet,  and hold kink in garden hose, lay garden hose on ground beside the pool this will siphon out the water.  You could use small submersible pump.

This is about the only way you can do it as above ground pools do not have drain in the bottom.
