How long can you store ammunition?

Question

Me and my friend want to buy bulk .22, 9mm, and .45acp ammunition for our pistols and we don't plan on using it all right away. How long will it keep? How long before the ammunition starts breaking down? 1 year? 5 Years? 10 years?
