How long can you wait before u press charges?

My mother hit me over the head with a pole and i didn't press charges at the time. Is it still possible for me to press charges? It's only been a couple of months it hasn't even been six months.

  1. In the u.s., you cannot press charges at all.  You can file a police report wheneve you want, but the decision to use tax money to seek a criminal conviction is reserved to the prosecutor, not the witnesses.  As you waited so long, no prosecutor is likely to agree to file charges.


  2. Consult your legal services representative.  It depends on the statue of limitations.

    Why would you want to bring charges against your own mother though?  And why did she hit you with a pole.  

    Instead of charges, how about going to family counseling?

    I do wish you and your mother the best of everything.  Always remember this, she is your only mother and you are her child.
