If its a good brand, it should last for about 5 years. It used to last 10 or more years, but everyone is using cheaper parts, and cheap design / construction which does not stay tough and last a long time. This is a fact from Wash Machine industry review. I would go with Made in germany or Made in Japan if you can find one near you, they are the best in the industry. (just like Cars).

I had a Kenmore brand from Sears that lasted 24 years with no service calls.  Now have an Amana that required a belt replaced in the first year.

Washing machines are used far more by some people than by others so in ten years one machine may do six times more work than another.  This makes comparing machines very difficult.  Our last machine lasted 15 years.  It was a Candy.

We've always had "middle of the road" brands that lasted 10-12 years.

This last set I shelled out the extra $ to buy Kitchen Aid, and at the present time, the washer is in my garage in 1 Zilliion pieces waiting on the repairman (who's tired of it too).  When he left the other day, it sounded like he's ordering every replaceable part!  (the problem started about 3 years into service)

Our Washing Machine lasted 9 years now we bought a new one. But that is just ours.
