  1. No, Eisenhower started the Apollo project.  John F. Kennedy simply raised it to a national priority, largely at the insistence of Lyndon Johnson.


  2. Well both the above answers are sort of right, sort of wrong.  JFK started Apollo's march to the moon in July 1962 so if you really want to be correct it took 7 years for Apollo to get to the moon.
