im taking shotokan, and ive been in it for a year, starting year two soon, but the thing is,our teacher says we need three stripes for the next belt,in my case, ive got a yellow stripe on my white belt.we get a test every 3 or six months and i failed once(lol)

i know its not about the belt, its about the training, but i wanna learn more,.....plus feel kinda of puny, lol

so like is it possible to "jump" to the next belt?or is there anyway to show the teacher im ready for the next level?

  1. My son jumped a belt, but he never failed a test.  He had his yellow in 6 months.

  2. i started on the ninth of july and i have to get theree stripes b4 my yellow also but i'm testing for my yellow monday ask ur instructor if u can test before or after a class session he might say no but my instructor said that we could its just a matter of your skills (and ur instructor)

  3. it depends on the way u trained your self, don't just depend on what ur instructor will teach you. i suggest that train also in your own if you have a time,, or if don't have an idea of training ur self, just review what ur instructor teach you. not reviewing in mind but what i am trying  to say is that what you have learned practice that at home

  4. 3 months you just need to train harder

  5. Don't worry about failing once, most people fail at some point, even grading for shodan (first dan).  It just means that you will know (better) what to expect next time.  Just don't give up too easily!

Tests provide a goal to train toward, giving your practice sessions focus and purpose. They are also a good chance to improve yourself through receiving feedback from those who see you. This helps you improve. If nothing else inspires you to test, how about the fact that you will improve from the experience if you do it right? You might not think this will happen, but it is your choice how to manage the test, and if you choose to, you can make it a valuable experience.
