And how did you do it?

I am 2 months post partum and I am 5lbs away from being at my pre-pregnancy weight of 130lbs! This month I am really kicking it up trying to eat only portion sizes and also being careful of what I eat. I try to get out walking or swimming every day and I am going to start doing exercises with my son. Goal: to be in at least size 8 jeans by my birthday August 29th! (I tried stretchy size 6 yesterday and was surprised to see that they weren't so bad!)

BTW- I only gained about 25 lbs.

  1. Wow only five pounds to go! Thats great. I have a little saying about post pregnancy weight. It took 10 months to gain it, it can take 10 months to lose it. there are many things to factor in, how much you weighed before you got prego, how many children you have had, how many pounds you gained during your pregnancy. On my first child it took about two months. I also gained around 25 lbs.  I am 4 months prego now and can already tell its going to take a lot more time with this one!

  2. Gained 30 and lost it all in 3 months. Breastfeeding and exercise helped. Good luck! Not sure why I got a thumbs down for losing weight in 3 months. Guess someone's jealous. Whatever. Good luck anyway.

  3. Hey Aug 29th is my birthday too! :)  I'll be the big 3-0, sigh.

    LOL

I gained 85 lbs in my pregnancy.  My son is 9 months old and I still have 25 lbs to go.  I haven't been actively trying to lose weight either though.  I keep myself busy by playing with my son, going for walks, etc, but nothing like dieting or exercising regularly.

    Great job! :)

  4. I am almost 5 months post and have 8lbs left. It's the same 8lbs that has been sticking with me for the last 3 months or so. I can't get it to budge, I am breastfeeding though. I know that sometimes your body holds onto just a little weight as insurance for breastfeeding.

I gained 42, mostly water though. I had a ton of swelling at the end.

  5. I gained about 50lbs and had lost all but 5lbs within the first 3 months. I didn't get a lot of sleep though as my little one was in the NICU for the first 5 weeks. I think I dropped most of the weight then from worry!

  6. with my 1st child i gained 48 pounds(did not know any better) but amazingly i lost it within 3  weeks as i had to get to be in my sister's wedding on april 18th..I was a size 6...That came right off with little exercise, just sit-ups...my 2nd child, i only gained 24   pounds and i figured  the weight would melt right off again like it did with my first child...  he is now 2 and a half years old and i am still in a size 8...it's not budging and i heard from several moms that that usually happens with a 2nd child. I am doing pilates 3 times a week, sit-ups, etc so i can only hope i get back in my pre-pregnancy size of 6.

  7. Kudos to you! I gained 53 pounds (within the last 2 and a half months of pregnancy) and am still lugging around the last 10 pounds. It seems to have adhered itself to different areas than before I was pregnant. I can fit into some size 10's which is where I was pre-pregnancy...but a 12 just seems to fit better. Before getting pregnant my areas hardest hit with fat was my stomach. With the exception of the little pouch I have now, all of the weight is on my hips, thighs and butt. Congrats on losing all the weight so fast!! Wish I was so lucky!

  8. Although it is not exactly a rule but if you have not lost most of your baby fat up to one year after childbirth, you should take care of it. Losing a pound or two a month is the optimal solution but if you have put a lot of weight during pregnancy, for instance 20 pounds (excluding the other pounds 15-20 pounds that you lost right after the baby was born), with this tempo you will not get far.

Many women manage to restore their shape three to six months after birth but still this is pretty individual and depends on how many pounds you have gained and how old are you. Generally women under 26 restore their shape with less efforts but again, this is not a strict rule.

One of the recommendations for dealing with baby fat is to lead a more active life during pregnancy. This way, even if you eat for two, you will hardly gain 50 or 60 pounds. Besides, unless your pregnancy is not too complicated and risky, leading a more active life (which however does not mean endless nights in the disco or skiing in the mountains) is useful for the baby as well.

Baby fat loss is not much different from any fat loss, except that if you are breast feeding, you need more calories daily. If you totally skip fats and carbs from your diet, this will directly affect your baby as well, so some of the classical approaches to dieting are not applicable right away to baby fat loss. However, if you have not kicked chips, candy and carbonated drinks from your diet until now, consider that the moment to do it has come.

Eating fruit and vegetables only might not give you enough energy to look after the baby, so not fat meat and dairy products are mandatory for your diet. Also, if you happen to extract fruit juices for the baby, extract a glass or two for you as well. This is good from any point of view and if you have never done it, why not start now?

The second major component of every fat loss program – exercise – also needs a slight adaptation for post-pregnancy women. Two or three months after childbirth, you might still have stitches that you risk to tear, if you practise a lot. The first three months after childbirth are not the time for active exercise, but some light exercise is OK (especially if your doctor recommends it).

Very soon you will see that you have a new form of physical activity – weight carrying. When the baby becomes 10 or more pounds, which generally happens in the first few months and you carry him or her in your arms (or in a kangaroo bag) most of the time, you will discover that this is a new way to burn calories. And when the baby grows a little and starts walking, you will soon discover that you also run many miles a day.

If carrying the baby and running after him or her is not enough, daily walks with the other babies (and their mothers) in the neighborhood will also burn you a lot of calories. You can also exercise while the baby is sleeping or somebody else is taking care of him or her

  9. I gained 25lb as well.... I got all the way down to those last 5lb in 6 weeks, but that is where I got stuck.  That was 8 weeks ago!  I try walking more to get rid if it, but that didn't help, I haven't really tried much else.  I am sure you will make it, you are working so hard, you deserve to.  Just remember not to over don't, take time to relax as well:)  Good luck and happy b-day early
