  1. i was 7 when i started surfing an it took me like 2 minutes

  2. Bout a year and a half.  However, I wasn't surfing consistently, maybe once a week during the winter, 5 times a week during the summer.  After that time I was completely comfertable and no longer kooky.

  3. not too long...it's pretty common to feel a little uncomfortable when you're starting out, but remember, everyone started somewhere.

    good luck!

  4. you should never feel totally comfortable in the water and the more you surf and the bigger waves/ types of breaks you take on will teach you that

ie you might feel comfortable at your home beachie but if you travel to a remote reef etc your whole perspective will change

the ocean can change very quickly so always be alert

this is all part of the attraction to surfing

  5. It took a while to be able to read the wind and the tides and understand how swell direction affected the beaches around my home. It took a year to figure out the basics, and a lifetime of learning all the minute details.

  6. i'm still not totally comfortable... i surfed a little bit last summer then got into it again during the last couple months... i still get almost frightened if the waves look to high to me (which isn't very high LOL)... but i'm taking it slow, going out on mellow days and riding the longboard... i kinda like just cruising around, it is relaxing...

  7. About 3 seconds.
