I'm going to start ice skating and I'm going to take private lessons. How long did it take you and how long do you think it will take me if I take private lessons (assuming I'll learn at a "normal" pace) to learn/land my first jump?

  1. well probably after 10 months to a little over a year. Cuz it takes a long time to learn all of the basics. But im not quite sure because I cant really remember but Im pretty sure it was about a year also if it is likke waltz jump your talking about. If your talking about a little jump in the air or a bunny hop probably like 3 or 4 months.

  2. Seven forks

  3. about a month after my first lesson.. no probably less. but it took me at least a month to actuallly get over my fear and actually JUMP.

  4. it took me about a month after starting skating. you don't go straight to the jumps and spins, you have to get the basics down first. but it's not hard. have fun, and u r so lucky that u r starting w/ a private coach, they help much more than group lessons.

    good luck!

  5. It was about 2 seconds after the guy in front of me fell over.

  6. i don't really remember when i learned the waltz jump (usually the first jump people learn), but i think it took me about two lessons or one weekv (after learning some of the basics that is!). its taken me a while to work up some height in it though. i also started learning the toe loop a few weeks back and have just started to get off the ice well. i think it varies for everyone. my coach told me some people she taught learned the toe loop in one lesson, and others took weeks. i think as long as you take your time to learn the basics and get good edge control it doesn't matter how long it takes for you to learn the jump.

    good luck :)

    P.S:

if you're a total beginner, maybe start with some group lessons. otherwise ur kinda just paying for someone to watch you practice....

if you already know some of the basics then it shouldnt be too long before you are jumping after some private lessons..

  7. even tho i play hockey and not figure skating i learned my first jump at the age of 9 so that would be 4 years ago cause i had to keep jumping over the ppl that would come in sliding at me (p.s. im the goalie) so i learned that automaticly so if your taking priveit lessions i would say about 2 years or less some were in there

  8. well im pretty fast so u shuddant judge or compare to me as ive been rollar blading since i was 8, im 14 n i swtched to ice skating about 9 mths ago. took me about 3 mths to learn a waltz jump. and ive alrdy landed a flip.

  9. umm took me about 2 months after i started group lessons but i was practicing alot b4 so ya 2 or 3 months. Good luck and work hard! do u know how to skate?

  10. im a hockey player and i learned like a week after i started hockey and i had been skating for a few yrs. before that cause my coaches made us jump over tires and lines
