How long did it take you from your very first lesson to the day you passed?

I am starting to wonder if I ever will! I have been learning for 7 months and still no signs of going for a test.

  1. Every one is differant, i had 18 months of lessons but my instructor wanted to be sure I'd pass first time, Which i did. It took some doing but I sure was pleased with the result.

My sister had 3 Tests before she passed on the 3rd attempt, that cost her a fortune but she did it in the end.

Keep persevering, it will happen before long.

My son has been taking lessons now for about 18 months, he's showing no signs of his test yet either.!!

Don't put unnecessary pressure on yourself.  Some people pass the first time.  Other people take longer.  Just do it at your own (safe) pace.

    good Luck...

  3. I learned for a year all together adn that combined four failed attempts as well. it was jsut nerves for me. Couldn't think straight from being nervous.

you will get there you just have to perserver. I know how tough it is and what it feels like when you think you'll never pass but jsut try adn be positive and confident and relax!!

You could always have  awrod with your driving instructor if you are really worried.

    Seek some assurances in him!

  4. exactly 12 months, but then it took me 2 weeks to pass my PSV and 12 hours to do my motorbike. It gets easier

  5. I have been learning for 15months now.

I am very nearly putting in for my test but just have a few kinks to iron out.

I was getting disheartened until a friend said that it took her 7 years and 5 attempts at passing (even now she admits that she is an appalling driver!!)

  6. Are you taking lessons, or have you ALSO got a relative taking you out in a car as well?  I had a combination of both, and my father and I just didn't set myself any brief time limit to learn to drive - I did virtually all the driving for my family whilst I was learning, until driving became second nature, alomost a chore at times.  Early morning, late nights, long trips, short trips, in traffic, on long dual carriageways, until I had done it all!

Something like 27,000 miles in about 18 months, mostly in a Ford Cortina 2litre S (S for "Sport"!) and, yeah, you could say I was ready for my test.  I believe it was about more than passing a test, and 25 years on, I have a clean licence, have never had an accident, and have driven in several foreign countries, in dozens of different cars and trucks, pieces of construction plant and farmyard machines, all without incident.

I still love driving today, and have some nice involving cars to enjoy too.  It's more than personal transport, it is personal freedom.

  7. 4 years.

We started driving tractors, pickups, and even the old combines at age 12.  We could drive a vehicle to go to school, until we were 16 and got liscense.

  8. Past test first time in ten minuets on a runway in the RAF in Gibraltar. 1944.

  9. about 2 years and 6 test later just persivere youll get there

  10. Just a couple of weeks, I passed 1st time, but I was driving and getting alot of experience before, you want someone to go out with you as often as poss' and gain more confidence
