  1. 19 months.

  2. I dunno, but 6 years from the first date till getting married.

  3. We dated for a year.

  4. 3 years, 1 month and 1 day of dating til he popped the question lol

  5. Four years until he asked... Was talking about it after 2, but he wasn't sure I guess. It will be 5 right after we get married. :o) I'm just glad he figured it out, because I always knew. :o)

  6. My FH and I were dating for 9 months and then he popped the question..

  7. 4 1/2 years.

  8. We knew one another a year and dated for about a year and a half. We were engaged about eight months before we got married.

  9. We had dated for 1.5 years and we'll have been together for 3 when we get married in two weeks.  We knew that it would happen within weeks of meeting one another.  We'd both looked so long and hard, that we knew the real thing when we saw it.  We'll both be marrying for the first time in our early 30's and neither one of us would change a thing.  We're both glad we waited for the right one...

  10. We dated a year before we got engaged...but we've known each other for 5 years and been best friends for about 2.

  11. 4.5 yrs!!  Wish it had been 3 yrs after dating, but we would not have had ANY money to do so.  We still don't but at least we have a little bit of something!  (He is trying hard to turn a really really good profit on his business!)

  12. Almost a year and a half. How long have you been dating? My suggestion is date at least a year before you get engaged and promise to marry this person and spend the rest of your life with him. Don't be in a hurry, because once it happens  it seems like time just crawls by until the wedding and then time flys by.

  13. A year and a half and we will be married on our three year anniversary.  We had lived together for over a year as well and we knew it was going to happen sooner or later.  We are waiting a bit to save extra money for our Vegas wedding.

  14. we are 5 months and we are engages . and after 2 months that we are engages we get married. he is on a Harry to marry me.

  15. 11 months.

  16. 4 months, then I got into his pickup one night after work to see a huge balloon bouquet and a stuffed animal.  I started crying and he took my hand softly said to me, smiling, "You're preganant, arent you?"  That was 19 years ago and I love him so much!

  17. My man and I have been together about 2 years, and he and I just started talking seriously about getting married.  I would say it was about 3 months ago we opened a joint savings account and started planning our future together.  However, we are both very introverted when it comes to personal things like our relationship.  In fact, he just told his parents last week that we are dating.  We are engaged, but I don't have a ring yet.  He put it this way "We are officially engaged, but not publicly engaged." We have about 4 years until we have enough money to get married and get a house.  We will probably get *publicly* engaged about a year or so before we plan on getting married.

  18. 5 years, still nothing, but im sure enjoying the ride

  19. My fiancee and I dated for a little shy of 4 years before getting engaged- We met in high schooll and are now entering our last year of undergrad together! We're getting married right after graduation and before graduate school.

I think how long you date really depends on where you two are in life. There's isn't really a set period of time- however more than a few months is appropriate!

  20. My husband waited two years before popping the question.

Here's a scientific rule of thumb me and my husband followed. Date long enough for the lust hormones to wear off and the bonding hormones to kick in.

If you still want to be with each other when you no longer lust so intensely, then you are truly lucky in love. From that and how you treat eachother at that point, you can decide if its worth forming a life-long attachment. If it's true love, waiting won't be an issue.

Communicate along the way your feelings. Make sure your partner knows where you are at every step. That way he/she won't surprise you into hasty yes or no decisions.  Also, he/she won't get pissed if you wait too long to ask. They can make the how they ask you the surprise, not the should they ask you.

Other examples I can think of:

My cousin met her husband and married him in three months and they are together running 50+ years.

One friend got into a hasty engagement at 20 and dropped him in a few months when the excitement wore off and she realized they wanted different things in life. (travel the world vs. stay at home family)

Another friend dated her man for 5 years and got married because her family kept asking her when they were getting married. She divorced him 5 years later for another man, because she didn't find him exciting anymore. Also, she was never really sexually attracted to his body type from the start. Go figure!

Know what you want and who you are before you start down the path of marriage!

Hope this helps!!! Great resources below!

  21. ummm...a week (no joke) I was joking around and I told him what I wanted my kids name to be and he said Talon Blake Dean? (which is his last name) and I was joking and said yeah and he said no really I want to marry you. So yeah it was a week but we have been friends forever

  22. i dated for two years before becoming engaged.

  23. We were officially engaged (with a ring) within 6 months of dating (10 months of being friends).

  24. 4 years and 3 months but we had ben friend for like 2 years before that and we will get married the day before our 6 year anniversary.

  25. we were best friends for 2 years, then dated a year and around the 1 year anniversary he popped the question :)

  26. My hubby and I were together for about 8 years.

  27. i've been with my man for a year and we'll be engaged soon. however, we've gone through a lot more than most couples: got pregnant, had a miscarriage, moved in together after 2 months, own 2 businesses....
