How long did you stay at the hospital when delivering your baby? Please specify if it was natural childbirth (no medication), epidural, c-section!

I'm due in three weeks and am getting ready for the hospital stay. Thanks a lot. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Had a c-section after a 63 hour labor and would have been released the 3rd day except the baby had an infection because I had a fever during labor.  Since he had to stay 7 days to finish antibiotics, they let me stay too because I was breastfeeding.

  2. I had twins via c-section at 2:10 and 2:12 AM on a Monday.

I came home at 5:00 PM on the following Wednesday, my choice.  I wanted to leave ASAP.

    Good luck!

  3. After hours of labor I had to have a c section. I had an epidural and spinal block. I was in the hospital for 5 days.

  4. I had a c-section - was admitted at 8:30am on a Monday and released before noon on Wednesday.

Most vaginal births only require a one night stay (24 hours after the birth) barring any complications, and most c-sections require 2-3 night stays (barring any complications).

  5. 5 days - i had complications post section.

emergency section after 23hrs - no epi, spinal block.

no medication during labour apart from gas and air.

  6. I stayed from 8pm Jan 31st to 10am Feb 2nd

    I had a vaginal delivery & epi =]

    Congrats! God Bless

I hope everythings goes well with delivery.

    XD

  7. I stayed at the hospital basically for the entire weekend. I got there at about 6 on a Friday and went home in the late afternoon on Sunday.

I had a very easy labor. I had an epidural and delivered vaginally. It's hard to say how long your hospital stay will be. It really depends on how long your labor lasts (mine only lasted about 9-10 hours-it was short) and whether or not you have any complications. Keep in mind though, that you cannot leave the hospital until you pass a bowel movement. Although they will give you Colace to speed up the process.

    Best of luck :)

  8. I had a planned induction with no epidural, a major episiotomy, a forceps delivery, and I had hemorrhaging.  We left 24 hours after my son was born.  They wanted me to stay longer, but I could not wait to get out of there and go home...

  9. If you have a smooth delivery (no problems) and baby is healthy, there is no reason for a stay longer than 48 hrs, some places will do an early discharge as early as 12 hr postpartum, it all depends on place of delivery and Mom/baby's health.

    Good Luck!

  10. I has all for of mine naturally no pain medication or epidurals and the longest I stayed in the hospital was 48 hours and the least I stayed was 24 hours after giving birth

  11. I was in the hospital for three days, but the first day i was waiting for induction (Cervadil) and then waiting for the medication to take effect.  I was in the hospital for 2 days post.  (Born Tuesday morning - went home Thursday morning)I had a natural childbirth with an epidural and 11 hours of labor.  My only advice is to milk the nurse for lots of extras when you are leaving.  My nurse gave me tons of those "huge" pads and disposable underwear, and lots of diapers.  Just relax and Good Luck.  Don't forget slippers!

  12. I was induced. I had an epidural as well.  I had to stay in the hospital for 48 hours.

They told me it was a law for everyone to stay for 48 hours. I wanted to go home right away!

By the way, pack lots of panties and things to do, such as a laptop or cards. The labor is long and the TV just doesn't cut it after so long.

  13. on my first i had an epidural and i stayed in for 2 days.

    on my second over night

    on my third over night

on my fourth over night and all natural births. well i had the gas  and air.

what i did when i was packing was i packed a seperate bag with more clothes for me and baby and left them in the car.

  14. I know for a natural childbirth, they like you to stay at least 24 hours, primarily for the purpose of the newborn screen, which can't be done until 24 hours after delivery.  With my first, I had him at 10:13am on a Wednesday, and we went home early afternoon on Friday.  I had an epidural and morphine during delivery.  With my second, I had him at 10:15pm on a Thursday, and we went home around 5pm on Friday.  The doctors really didn't want me to go that early, but I felt perfectly fine.  We just had to take the baby the next morning to a pediatrician for the newborn screen.  With this delivery, I went completely natural (not by choice).  I will say the natural delivery recovery was much easier, but the labor was definitely a million times harder!  Good luck!

  15. With my daughter she was stillborn..i was in there for 7 days..due to complications and 5 days before she was born..trying to stop labor.. that was in Arecibo Puerto Rico

my son i was there 2 days..i was induced..had epidural..had him then out the next day:) at University of Virginia Medical center

  16. I had a c-section, which I didn't know about until the last minute. I was in labor for 18 hours, so that was one night. Then I stayed three more nights, with the option of staying another night. If you have a c-section, plan on staying 4 nights. 2 for a vaginal birth. Unfortunately, you won't know until you get there! Good luck.

  17. I just had my 2nd baby 2 wks ago. I arrived at the hospital at 10:43 pm. 08-13-08 w/ contractions 5-3 mins. apart. Had my baby at 5:15 pm 08-14-08. The labor was natural w/ an epidural. I took the epidural when I was 8cm open. The pushing took about 10-15 mins. After my son was born I stay for 24 hrs. and then went home.

With my 1st son. I arrived at the hospital at 6am 03-02-07, for an induction b/c I was over due. Had my my son at 6:45pm of that same day. Labor was vaginally w/ an epidural. I took the epidural when I was 3cm open. The pushing took 45 mins. After my son was born, we got to go home 24hrs. later, I was given the choice to stay 1 more day but I just want it to go home.

**If u decide to take any medication take the new painkiller that is connected to the iv. Leave the epidural for the stronger contractions or until u dilate 7-8cm. It will make labor much easier.

Congrats and hope everything goes great.

    Best Wishes!!

  18. I had a natural birth with complications delivering the placenta.  I stayed in hosp for 5 days (1989).

In 1994, I had the same complication, but still went home the next day.

  19. I had natural childbirth, no meds of any kind.  All went well and I was in labor for 4 hours, from start to finish.  Me and my son stayed in the hospital for two days and then we were released.

  20. I went into the hospital late Sunday night, had an emergency c-section late Monday morning, and went home early Thursday evening (we would have gone home sooner, but the hospital wanted to run further tests on my son's heart murmur).

  21. First baby:  Was in labor at the hospital for 14 hours, baby was 11 pounds, birth was ALL natural, no pain killers, no epidural, was discharged 12 hours after birth, sent to another hospital for 4 days.

Second baby: was in labor at the hospital for 7 hours, baby was 6 pounds, in process of getting an epidural when head popped out, had pitocin and staydol, went home 2 days later.

Third baby: Only 16 weeks pregnant, so nothing to report yet. :)

  22. 1st baby epidural - 24hrs

    2nd baby natural - 4hrs

3rd baby natural - midwife said if all went well we could go home after 1hr but she stopped breathing when she was born and needed a little help so it was 11 hrs

  23. I stayed 3 days before due to really high blood pressure and then 48 hours after was discharged. Natural birth, epidural did not work. And this time I'm going to the birthing center I only expect to be there for 8 hours after delivery.

  24. I had an emergency c-section and stayed a week. Probably would have gone home earlier, but after four days, son was losing weight, so they were concerned.

  25. I had my son naturally no meds, on saturday april 21, 2007, and left Monday at 10 am April 23, 2007.

  26. i had my daughter with and epidural. i checked into delivery at around 6:30pm ont the 9th and stayed until the 12th in the morning

  27. My first baby-born at 25 weeks I had a c-section and was in the hospital from Wednesday to Sunday. My second-born at 33 weeks was a c-section and I was in the hospital from Tues to Thursday. It all depends on how well you are doing after the birth. Good luck!

  28. 3 days with my 12 yr old son: epidural, pitocin drip

2 days with my 21 month old son: epidural

24 hours with my 9 month old daughter because I had a fit to get home to my then 1yr 9 day old son: epidural

  29. With my oldest I was there 4 nights because I had a little infection for my other 3 it was 3 nights they were all c-sections.

For most people I believe it depends on their insurance.

  30. I stayed for two nights after having my daughter, I could have left after ne, but they asked me to stay one more day just to be sure we were both okay.  I had my daughter after being induced, but other than that I had no pain medication so it was as "natural" as an induced labor can be.

  31. I was admitted to the hospital on May 31st, had my baby on the 3rd and got to leave on the 5th.

I had a vaginal delivery && I had an epidural.

The only reason why I had to stay so long was because I was induced and things didn't go as planned lol.

God bless and hope everything goes well for you!!
