I'm going to be a junior this fall and I was just wondering how long most people studied for their SAT and PSAT. I have no idea when I should start studying.

Also, is there a lot of vocab on the test?

  1. I'm going to be a junior as well this fall and I must admit I'm soo scared about taking PSAT and the SAT. I'm ordering a few study books and I hope I'll stick to them. I'm soo worried. But i think you should start studying now. Don't listen to people who say: Don't study for the PSAT. Colleges look at the PSAT grades...if they didn't, why would they make u take it? It is a guide for the SATs but u should still start studying from now. Study 5 vocab words a day and brush up on your math skills. Good luck!

  2. Started in 9th grade, eventually got a perfect score.

  3. Okay it's still not too late. As a junior, you're on track because that's when you should start the testing. You only need to take the test 2 or 3 times as long as you get the score your'e trying for. I wouldn't study for the PSAT. It's only a practice test and it's supposed to tell you how good you are at the moment and will tell you what to work on. Then you can use that to help you study for the SAT. Start studying now and get one of the SAT guides to help you. There is vocab on the test but I wouldn't say a lot. You should still study vocab provided in the guides unless you know your vocabulary is strong.

I didn't study for the PSAT and I got up in the 90 percentile range. But it really depends on the kind of student you are and your level of knowledge. No one is the same after all. For the SAT I studied briefly for like a month and I got a 1980. I ended up taking the ACT and getting a higher score. Once again, it all depends on the person and if they benefit from studying.

  4. If you are at the top of your class and constantly score high on standardized tests, etc, study for the PSAT because their is a scholarship for the best test takers. Colleges will look at the PSAT if your score is very high.

  5. there is quite a lot of vocab which was ultimately my weakest point..but most englis hcalsses throughout highschool use lots of vocab words on the test..i was shocked at how many i knew from high schools...with that being said...i studied exactly 0 hours combined for both tests..i took each one once and got a 2150 on my sat which i improved by 100 from my psat.  but there are classes and **** you could use and books to buy...in my opninion studying really wont help tooo much as like vocab for instance  there are just too many words in the english language that they could use...maybe study prefixes and suffixes and greek roots, etc which could help to identify the basic meaning/connotation of a word alot.. but maybe just review math concepts--its really an either u know it or u dont kind of thing tho.....

  6. I wouldn't really study for the PSAT - take it and see what you know first, then work on your weaknesses. As for the SAT, I studied for about a week - and found I ought to have studied a little longer. I ended up with a 1960.
