I had a series of blood tests, including ANA and sed rate, a few days ago and I'm curious as to how long I should expect to wait for the results to come back.

  1. does ANA stand for antinuclear antibodies?? if so, they are found in the blood and im assuming the test will take just as long as any regular test. i can get my blood test results within a week.

  2. It all depends on whether they are done within the facility or they have to send it out.  If it is sent out, it generally takes about a week.  Alot of smaller hospitals will not do ANA's in house and they will send them out.  Call your doctor, they can give you an estimate.

  3. The sed rate is performed immediately upon collection of the specimen and can be read from 30 to 60 minutes, depending upon the methodology used.  The ANA is often sent out to a reference laboratory, but, generally, if collected M-Th, the results can be available within 24 hours after collection.

I'm quite positive the results have been sent to your doctor by now.   If you've called and they've told you the results aren't back, the truth may be that the results haven't yet been entered by the office staff into the patient's medical record/chart.
