How long do I need to stay out of Canada after a 6 month stay on a visit in order to re visit?

We are in the process of immigrating to Canada and are going on a 6 month holiday over summer and the fall. I know I need to leave at the end of this time, but I dont know how long for or who to ask.

you can apply to extend your stay,you must do this at least a month before your stay is due to finish, i did this 5 times til my immigration went through
