  1. I bought a Hitachi TV from 1992, which means that I had it for 16 years. It still works great. Newer appliances don't last as long as older appliances did. Newer appliances are more complicated than older devices, which means that newer appliances don't last very long.

  2. The newer plasmas from Panasonic last longer, but not all "new" televisions have good longevity.

The current 11" OLED model from Sony only has 30,000 hours of life.

Buying a well-known brand of television, like Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony, Sharp, etc., is never a bad starting line. Most CRT's from those guys all last over 10 years and beyond.

  3. That all depends on what style T.V. you get.  The new DLP and LCD models typically last 7-9 years, whereas the standard models last around 10-12.  It also depends on how much you use them and what you use them for.  Playing video games and other things that produce a still picture decrease quality and longevity.

  5. Our old Sony lasted 20.

  6. All tv's wear out eventually. 12 years is a good life span. If you take good care of them, they will usually last anywhere from 10-15 years, but it's probably really a matter of luck. I've had tv's repaired once or twice if I felt it was still a good tv & the repair price was reasonable. Sometimes you can get a free estimate but will usually have to pay for the repairman to come to your house. If you can afford it, it's probably best to invest in a new tv. Good luck.
