I need to buy a used car and I found a Volvo S70 with 140,000 miles on it. It is in great shape and they are asking $5000 for it. Is it worth it based on the mileage? How long do they usually last?

  1. I would keep looking. ive heard bad things about Volvo's and that one is pretty up there in miles.

  2. That's about 22k Swedish mil. My old 740 has lasted for 28k and I know about cars that has lasted 70k. How long a car has run isn't as important as how it has been run and how it's been taken care of.

Almost any car that's been taken care of and have been regularly serviced will keep on running with no problems. When I say been taken care of I refer to oil changes, cam belt changes and so forth that has been done by the book.

The S70 is esentially a 850 with a rounder body but the same mechanics underneath.

You might also want to take into consideration who is the owner. A young person who has been driving hard or an older one? Is the previous owner technically inclined. Such persons tend to have a better understanding of what a machine can stand and what it can't stand and they also tend to have the common sense to take care of it. Generally speaking that is.

  3. usually, s70's go for a little cheaper than that. but, they're good cars, better than the newer kinds. if you can talk them down a little on the price, go for it. just to be safe, maybe do a carfax report and try to get maitnance records, a volvo that is serviced on time, lasts a while. good luck.
