How long do chinchilas live? Do they like to be handled? Do they stink? How often do I have to claen the cage?

any other info would be great! Also if you haven't owned a chinchilla or a friend has never owned one ( for lifespan smell and picking up you would know too) please don't answer just because want answers coming from experiences. Thanks :)

i had one, he didnt like to be handled coz he hadnt been handled from being young, i had to clean his cage evry morning coz he pooped like mad, he didnt stink but the sand from his sand bath used to get everywhere, they can live for 20yrs or more, they have really super sensitive tummies and get diarrohea really easily.

clean the cage once every week and a half to two weeks. they live 20+ years. I have noticed that as chinchila's get older, like 5 years old, they dont like getting handled as much

1. They can live 25 years+

2. It takes time, but yes eventually they are very social creatures.

3. No, great pets if you don't like the smell of rodents. Although that does mean you have to clean the cage.

4. I would say I cleaned our cage about every two weeks or depending on how bad it was.
