How long do email problems last in the military on ships?

I've been trying to email someone in the Navy who's on deployment / tour. We email daily but for the past 6 days I haven't gotten any emails in and every email I send I get an email returned that's titled "Warning: could not send message for past 1 day" and has the error written as "Deferred: Connection timed out with (boats name)". Then a lot of scrip.

I'm worried, does anyone know what this is or how long it will last?

  1. There could be several reasons why and no idea of ow long it will take to get back up and running again.

It could be down because of satellite problems, they are in the middle of an exercise, or email option could have been shut down completely because of something someone said that violates OPSEC.

Have you written a letter?  You might have to go back to the old fashioned way for awhile.

  2. anywhere from a few days..to the rest of the cruise.  seriously.

the same satellites that send/receive are the ones they use to do their job.

actually a week is about average.

I have gone three weeks without hearing from him on more than one occasion.

  3. often a boat sink however its mirical that a boat can receave any email a typical boat dont have the internet because usual internet are connect by long, long wire which under ground and under ocean and even if a boat's on the ocean hard to connect it to the wires so it makes me wonder if boat connection by long wire which they swich it when necesary or if they have wifi

  4. I agree with NWIP...Also keep in mind size of the "unofficial" or personal e-mails allowed on most ships are very limited...

OPSEC would be the main reason....

There is a phrase "Loose lips, sinks ships!"
