  1. 4 years for the title, a masters to work and a PhD to be taken seriously.

  2. To be taken seriously...a PhD. Sadly, these days, the average college degree is about equal to a high school GED from 40 years ago.

You will need to really learn the field and a PhD is a good indication that you both want to learn and are capable of doing so.

  3. Depends on what you want to do with your degree. What sort of anthropology are you interested in? Forensics? Social anthropology? Linguistics? Teaching? Archaeology? To get a Baccalaureate (BA) in anthropology should take four years. Then you can honestly say you are an anthropologist, but it is not likely that you will get a job as an anthropologist (except possibly in forensics or as a field tech doing contract archaeology). Another two years for a Master's and you can start getting better jobs. Another four years or so after that and you could have a PhD, which is a requirement if you want to be a professor or lecturer. It is a long time - you need to really love it, but you will learn a lot about people and a lot about yourself.
