  1. Hi Gary,

So sorry to hear that you are miserable!  First things first... You are in agony, and the painkillers are not working... GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR DENTIST OR SURGEON ASAP!!!  To be in pain three days later is not uncommon, but for your pain medicine to be ineffective is uncommon.  What where you given?  Motrin 800?  Tylenol with Codeine?  Vicodin?  Sounds like your dentist needs to be a bit more aggressive with your pain management.

Second, is the pain coming from the fractured second molar, or from the extraction site?  Breaking teeth when getting extractions sometimes happens.  It is always a risk, and not fun for the patient or the dentist.  What I worry about is how much fractured, and is the nerve exposed on the fractured tooth?  Is this the source of your pain?  Tough to know without a visual exam...

At any rate, you can probably get dental work done a week or less after extractions if you really need to, or two to three weeks if the tooth is not bothering you.  It will take a little time for the swelling to go down, and for you to be able to open wide enough for dental work.

Best of luck to you, and I hope you feel better soon. <:-(
