  1. They taste MUCH better in the oven - they cook unevenly in a microwave and have either a lumpy or gluey texture.  You can cook them at whatever temperature anything else is cooking at:  between 350-425; and just adjust the time.  If you're cooking them alone, then I'd do it between 375-400, for about an hour.  Brush the outsides with olive oil, and sprinkle with seasoning salt;  poke with a fork, and put on a baking sheet.....If you want to REALLY impress her, you can scoop out the insides of the soft, baked potatoes.  Mash that with some sour cream, butter, salt, pepper, and grated cheese and put back into the potato shells.  Dot with more butter and sprinkle some paprika on them.  Stick them back in the oven at 375 for another 15 min, or so.

  2. First pre-heat  your oven to 425F.  Thoroughly wash, scrub and dry your potatoes.  Pierce on all sides with a fork.  Place a small amount of course salt (sea salt, Hawaiian salt, etc...not table salt) in the center of a square piece of foil, shiny side out and big enough to completely wrap your potato.  Wrap you potato tightly and place in center rack of you pre-heated oven.  Your potatoes should be done in 45-50 minutes.  They will be soft when pierced with a fork.  The salt is a secret a chef from Belize taught me.  It speeds up  the cooking time when cooking for large groups of people and also brings the moisture out of the potato, making it nice and fluffy.

  3. Bake at least 45 minutes but an hour is better.  350 degrees!

  4. it depends on the size of the potato.... they are done when you can squeeze them. 375 degrees. 1 hr for #2's or 3/4 #.  really dont see the needs to pierce and prod the things. they will continue to cook for 15 minutes when you take them out of the oven.  but since you waited till 2 hours before your M.I.L. comes over for dinner, i guess it was not that important.

  5. Not being a smarta$$, but till they're done,  depends on the size of the potato.  If you can push a toothpick in easily its done.  Usually about an hour.  Btw  if you put it in the mike & then in the oven for a few minutes, no diff.

  6. Leave them whole, wrap in foil (or not, for crispy skins), pierce with a fork and bake on oven rack for 1 hr. at 425.
