How long do i really have to wait for an over the counter pregnancy test to work?

I didn't get a positive (and I took 4 different kinds of tests multiple times) until 3 weeks after my period was due.

The OBGYN told me he always recommends waiting until your period is atleast due or 14 days after you last had s*x if your periods are irregular.  He said rarely ever has any of his patients gotten a positive any sooner and if you test to early a negative will just be a false negative and you could still be pregnant.  I know my family Dr does blood tests the day your period is due if it doesn't come but he won't test any earlier.

You can find out as early as 5 weeks before your missed period with some tests. I took a dollar store test cost me $1, on the day my period was to come and got a positive. Found out I was 5 weeks.

OOPS I meant 5 days not 5 weeks before your period!!!!

You can test when your period is due and  you missed it.this is the perfect time.
