  1. I was told by my coach that orthotic supports normally last through about two pairs of shoes...he also told me that you need 2 pairs of running shoes to switch on a daily basis and that you should only put 500 miles on each pair of shoes before replacing them.

  2. If you are talking about orthotics made by a podiatrist then they last about 10 years, with the insole part replaced every year or two.

If you are talking about an insert bought at a store then a couple of months.

Just look at them when you change shoes and you can tell.

  3. Can obviously vary depending on the pounding they take and so on.

Two pairs of shoes (perhaps 800-1000 miles) is usually about right.

You should be able to go somewhat on feel, like you should be doing with shoes. When they're "flat" and/or you start getting little aches and pains that don't normally occur, they've probably had it. If you rotate shoes (and the other pairs have they're own insoles) you should be able to tell by comparison when something's too far gone.

Unless you've done a *lot* of miles on that single pair within 3 months, you normally wouldn't need new ones yet.
