The average is about 8-12 years. I gave my aunt a violet male that was unbanded. I had used him a couple of times in the breeding cage and he didn't do very well. She took him after I had him for three years. He lived 19yrs7months after my aunt took him. This bird was a verifiable 24 years old. I have heard of 25 year old birds.

This depend on eg. there diet, care given , environment ,are you giving them any special attention? Parakeets also you make sure they do not get into where there is a draft is very important, they catch colds very quickly and will die on you in no time .They should also be covered at night.You best bet is go to pet store and get some literature on Parakeets, or talk to your sales person or vet on the care of Parakeets, before you even consider purchasing one to ensure it"s proper care.

usually 12 years but i heard of a parakeet that lived for 21 years O_O and ya it depends on how well there taken care of...clean cage, free of bacteria and clean water everyday and some fresh vegetables and fruits will help it live longer so will loving it
