How long do points stay on your driving licence for

Depends what they are for - but generally it seems to be 3 years - you could probably get yours removed.

it depends on what state/ country you are in, and what the offense is

Minor offense- Usually it will stay on your driving record for 5 years. It will only risk you losing your license for 3 unless you have other tickets.

Major Offense- 5 years, and will effect your license status for all 5 years.

If you have a commercial drivers license, employers can pull up your driving record for the last 10 years.

The points stay on your licence for 3 years but all insurance companies will note any in the last 5 years and you will still pay a higher premium even if they are over 3 years old. It does not matter what the points are for the same rules still apply!

They usually stay on for three years and then will be removed when you send it in.

Your insurance company though may request if you have had any points in the last five years.

I beleive this depends on the state and the violation, but here in California let's say a speeding ticket or failure to stop (something minor) will stay on your record for three years.  Something more serious like a hit and run or a DUI will be there for 7 or maybe even 10 years now.  Good luck and drive safe!

It used to be 3 years where I live, but now when they run your abstract, it shows everything, all the way back to the beginning of when you started driving. I don't think it effects your insurance rate if it is further back than the number of years they ask on their application.
