How long do schools keep there records on pupils? I want my fathers school records?

  1. The schools keep records for 5 years by law after 5 years they store them in the District so you might want to check that out!!!But they probably wont give them to you cause they are private....Call the District and ask them!!


  2. Unlikely they have got them.  They wouldn't give them to you anyway as they are private.

  3. Because of the data protection act there are strict rules on retaining information. Here is what I found:

    School Log Books,  - Retained for 6 years from date of last entry

    Admissions Registers  - Retained for 6 years from date of last entry

    Individual Pupil Records  - Pupil’s date of birth plus 25 years

    Class Registers - Date of Register plus 3 years.

    The info was for North Yorkshire Counsil but I'm assuming most regionswill be fairly similar.  

  4. You may want to contact the school district. If he passed away, you may have to have a death certificate.
