How long do student exchange programmes go for???

i was thinking of going on student exchange in my gap year next year. but does anyone know if your able to go for 1-2 months or are you only able to go for a whole semester???

For high school there are usually three times to pick:

summer, 1-2 months

semester, 3-4 months

year, 10-11 months
